What is a digitally excluded learner?
A digitally excluded learner is defined as a learner who does not have access to an appropriate internet-connected device and/or internet connection, to engage in online learning activities from home.
We have made the decision to “loan” school devices to pupils that have been identified as digitally excluded. There are a limited number of devices we are able to loan.
At present, the Welsh Government and Local Authority Education and IT departments are looking at ways that they can help and support this going forward. For those without an internet connection MiFi devices are being procured by Welsh Government and we expect the first batch (mix of Vodafone and EE) to be available for families towards the end of May.
A loan agreement that both the school and parents agree and sign will be in place before any resources are loaned making parents or guardians responsible for an damage or loss of devices.
An acceptable use policy is being revised for Remote/Distance Learning.
This will be used to ensure that the pupils stay safe when using the school equipment at home. This survey will be used by us to help assess which households are in greatest need.
Please complete the important survey below about digitally excluded learners. It will allow us to identify families in need of computers and/or an internet connection.
