WELCOME TO TRALLWN PRIMARY SCHOOL – A SILVER RIGHTS RESPECTING SCHOOL
As the proud headteacher of our school, I welcome you to our website.
Trallwn Primary School is a vibrant and inclusive school in the village of Trallwn on the east side of Swansea. The school serves a largely socially disadvantaged area.
- 55% of learners (1 in 2) are currently eligible for Free School Meals.
- 19% (1 in 5) of learners have a statement of special educational needs, an Individual Development Plan (IDP) or a pending IDP (Additional Learning Needs);
- 28% (nearly 1 in 3) of our learners receive support from external agencies, or school-based intervention;
- 11% (1 in 10) of children have English as an additional language (EAL);
- 2.3% (1 in 50) are Looked After Children (LAC);
- 77% of Nursery to Year 1 pupils have language skills below that expected for their age.
- Pre-pandemic attendance remained in quartile one, with attendance over 95%. Attendance post-pandemic has remained below 90%, and forms part of our school improvement plan. Last year’s attendance was 86.4%.
Well-being is at the heart of all our work at Trallwn Primary, which includes relentlessly supporting the behaviour and emotional and mental health of our learners and their families, and building and sustaining strong relationships between school and home in order for learners to thrive and reach their full potential.
A significant PDG grant is used to provide excellent value for money in the work that we do on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), nurture, Relationship Based Play, Family Based Play, Trallwn Around the Family, and our more recent Grwp Troi intervention to support our most vulnerable pupils whose self-esteem, mental health and risk of exclusion and youth offending are very serious issues.
The school works relentlessly to support families and the community to aspire to live the happiest and best family lives that they can. This sometimes calls for firm expectations of parents, to give their children the boundaries, support and emotional availability that they need.
‘Relentless’ is one of our key words at Trallwn. From relentless routines to the relentless hearts and souls of the staff that go into each and every hour, every day, every term, every year, to secure the best possible opportunities and outcomes for the community we serve…nothing is too much. We work on the basis that we make a difference…’getting it right’ for a child 30% of the time can have a direct impact on their life chances of success, which is the amount of time we have within our power to do just that – to help them succeed, whatever that may look like for them.
The school’s vision statement has been written by the children, for the children, post-pandemic. Pupils play a big part in informing our curriculum design and in the life of the school, and they are excited to be able to showcase their school and how proud they are of it.
